For whatever reason, I don't post as many drinks here as many other dishes. It's not that I don't make some tasty ones, whether family-friendly like peach lassi and papaya lemonade, or cocktails like cava sangria and the blushing rose vermouth cocktail. But in fairness, we do often stick to the same old drinks.

Now and then, though, I get more creative, and the kids also go through smoothie phases. This tropical fruit smoothie is incredibly easy to make. It's packed with healthy ingredients and a good doze of vitamin C, so it's ideal for times, like now, when it's often warmer but we're still getting over a cold.

Smoothies are a great way to get in lots of good fruit, and vegetables in some cases (like my dairy free green smoothie), in one easy tasty drink. They're great for breakfast, or as a nice pick-you-up later in the day. They don't take long to make and there are endless variations.

Not that all variations work, mind you - I have tried a couple mixtures that have gone a bit weird on me, but this tropical fruit smoothie is not one of them. This one is refreshing and delicious, with ingredients that even smile at you.

mango, papaya and banana laid out into smiling face

OK, that one is a bit lame, if you can even see the smiley face in that set of fruit. But it doesn't stop this being a great smoothie.

One of the times I made this, I added in some flax seed meal for some extra goodness - there are so many great qualities to flax seeds and you don't taste them, there are just slight fleks in the drink - but you can skip them if you like.

The mango, papaya, orange juice and banana then all give a nice natural sweetness and freshness. For me, the amount of orange juice in this is fine, but if it's a bit too thick for you, feel free to add a bit more. It's a tropical fruit explosion in your mouth.

If you're a fan of tropical flavors, why not also try my tropical fruit salad or this tropical mocktail punch.

This tropical fruit smoothie is delicious, easy and good for you. I for one will be making this again, ideally enjoyed in the sun.

Lovely smoothie. I have all the fruits at home and will try it. Sometimes the simplest things can be the tastiest and this is really classic. I will try with some walnuts instead of flax seeds.
